Loose ceiling tiles (inset) were re-fastened with air-gun stapler. Surface was plastered level and primed. Medium-weight embossed paper was applied, primed, and painted, giving the room an historical appearance.
The existing tiles were plastered over. Stripping them would have left a 1/4" gap at the cove moulding -- then the cove would need replacing -- and in raising and
reinstalling the cove tight to the ceiling -- a gap would then appear at the bottom edge -- meaning that either the walls would need re-wallpapering, or a wider cove would be needed -- etc. etc. and
then a small job becomes something bigger and costlier than what was anticipated.
As the budget eventually allowed, this room later received a wider and more distinctive moulding as well as new wallcovering.
The final look is much improved with the installation of new wallcovering and wider crown mouldings.
