Who would guess...
that these window grilles are merely a simulation of the classic ones.

Trends come and go. That's the nature of the beast.
Grilles may or may not be in vogue. If you find that they are not, wait
awhile and they'll come back in -- at which time you may want to put on
your bell-bottom jeans.
The standard grille inserts are a real pain. They are
known to bulge or warp, and they need to be removed in order to clean
the glass. Also, unless they are prefinished, they will need painting,
staing, etc. (Ick!)
Grille Inserts make window cleaning a pain in the butt. If you are renovating, get the windows with the grilles embedded within the glazing.

Don't let an artist get bored around the house -- it will lead to things like this.
This classic look is a stick-on imitation that I made up.
Due to the number of enquiries, I am now offering them as a DIY product. no longer available

Because these painted grilles lay flat to the glass, window washing is a breeze.

Here is a strip that I partially pulled off, to illustrate how both sides were painted and how they appear.
The dark green (exterior) side has similar shadowing
and highlights, and was a match to the exterior green trim work --
green being a trend colour at that time. This particular exterior was
redone in a faux woodgrain, and the grillework removed, since it no
longer matched.

Here is another application. Used here, the applied grilles made the entry look rather secure.
These are done away with now, since I acquired a dog, which serves me fine for security.
On the other hand, the grilles never barked or needed walking or brushing.
