An Entry Door with a Faux Finish

Faux finishes can be used to merge the interior side of an entry door into its interior surrounds. The inside surface of this door was faux painted to match the tone and colouring of the floor tiled entry.

Some steel or fiberglass doors have an embossed wood-grain texture. Doors of this style are more easily stained in the usual wipe on - wipe off fashion.

Faux bois applications need a perfectly smooth surface. A textured or imperfect surface can be smoothed and levelled out with automotive body filler. This filler works well for levelling and bonds to both steel and fiberglass substrates. Being catalyzed, this filler sets up hard in minutes.

Some auto-body fillers are toxic.

Pay attention to labeled safety warnings. Note that U.S. and Canada label warning requirements differ. If you are using a product imported from the U.S.A., the label may not be disclosing all of the health hazards associated with that product.
